News: Shopping for Christmas presents often poses a real challenge to people and they come to dread the season altogether. Too many choices, shoddy workmanship, crowds…and then you get the present home and have to wrap it. If this describes your experience, try stopping in to New Mexico Tea Company for a look at some interesting gift ideas. In addition to our 50 teas sold in bulk by the ounce (the famous and ever popular Blood Orange, Luminaria Christmas Tea, and delicate Pomegranate White Tea…the list is long), we have cast iron tea pots, glass tea pots, English tea sets, Yixing tea pots from China, Gaiwan and Gong Fu Cha sets, chai cups from India, Cliff Dweller ceramic tea mugs. Well, all this is presented for your shopping ease in our calm store. And the gift wrapping is free.
Products: The blooming "Fortune Tea" origami ornaments featured in last month's newsletter were very popular. We ran out of them for a short while, but I wanted to let everyone know we have created a new batch. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is a origami pyramid enclosing a hand-sewn blooming white, green, or black tea that unfolds in hot water to display a Chrysanthemum or Ozimanthus flower. And a surprise fortune as well. They sell for $5. Two new organic teas are available this month: Irish Breakfast, a rich blend of black teas, and Kukeicha, a green tea from Japan. Other available organic teas are: Single Estate India Darjeeling, plain Rooibos and Caramel Rooibos Darling from South Africa, High Mountain Green Tea and Moli Chun Hao jasmine green from China, and all organic herbal detox teas from Datil, New Mexico. The herbal detox teas include Immune Boost, Bursting Berry, Kidney & Bladder, Tummy Tea, and Liver & Gallbladder teas. The Legend of the Singing Cup: Legend has it that a devoted Taoist practitioner during the Sung Dynasty in China (969-1279 CE) had a dream about being included in a discussion among the Gods. After this celestial meeting, the God of Wealth made tea for everyone. The practitioner noticed that the cups were different from normal tea cups and asked the God of Wealth to explain. "If you rub the cup edge gently," came the reply, "the cup will give a wonderfully melodious sound. I will follow that melody and make your dreams of wealth come true." When he woke up, the practitioner hired craftsmen to make Singing Cups according to his dream. Soon the Emperor found out about the cups, and declared them for himself alone. After the demise of the Sung Dynasty, the cups once again became available to everyone. The thinness of the Singing Cup is similar to paper. It must have an angle of 45 degrees. The porcelain clay must come from the mountains and be fired at a temperature of 1260 degrees centigrade. Because of the complicated and demanding procedure, the loss rate is high. New Mexico Tea Company offers a gift package of six white Singing Cups with blue design for $25. Enjoy the myth as you sip your tea, or find out if the myth is reality
