December 2008 Newsletter
 12/1/2008  by  David

Edition: December 2008

December 16th marks the 235th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. In order to celebrate this monumental event in history we won’t be charging tax on anything store wide on that Tuesday. How can we get away with such civil disobedience? Will the state of New Mexico be knocking on your door on December 17th? No, we will pay the tax for you! So come in on Tuesday the 16th and enjoy your own personal tax holiday.

Speaking of promotions I would like to spend a little time talking about our free ounce of tea promotion. From now on we are referring to it as our “free sample of tea” promotion. The idea behind the promotion is to try something new that you’re not quite sure about. This means that sometimes you might get an ounce, sometimes you might get more, and sometimes you might get less. It depends on the type of tea, alignment of the planets, and other nebulous whims.

Many people are looking for Christmas presents this time of year. We are able to design and manufacture almost any conceivable Christmas packaging for any of our products that you want to give as gifts. We will also have some teas prepackaged for last minute gifts. If you would like to have something made specifically for you we will need about a week to put it together, so please let us know as soon as possible.

Hint: Tea makes a uniquely eloquent office gift, and we can even put your logo on it.

Featured Products
Personal Tea Filter Cup
Personal Filter Tea Cup: These cups can be used as either a travel tea filter cup, or a tea pot. If you want to use it as a travel cup, you can sandwich the tea between the two lids. Turn the cup upside down while steeping. When finished, turn the cup right side up again, and remove both lids together.

The personal filter cup comes in three sizes. 6oz ($14), 8oz ($19), and 12oz ($24).

Origami Fortune Tea Origami Fortune Blooming Tea: Flower teas are made with top quality buds hand-tied and may be drunk through multiple infusions. During steeping, Flower Teas open up to reveal the long leaves they are made of and a delicate flower hidden inside. For fullest enjoyment, we recommend preparing Flower Tea in a glass vessel and taking the time to watch it gradually unfurl and open up. ($5)
Hues N Brews Tea Pots: We are getting Hues N Brews teapots back in stock this week. We will have the ipot, as well as the tea for ones (pictured).

Tea History

The word mate is properly spelled "mate" in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, though some English sources prefer "maté." The accent on the final letter is intended to indicate that the word is distinct from the common English word "mate," meaning a partner. The multicultural Yerba Mate Association of the Americas states that it is always improper to accent the second syllable, since doing so confuses the word with an unrelated Spanish word for killing.

The Guaraní people started drinking mate in the region that now includes Paraguay, southern Brazil, north-east Argentina, and Uruguay. The Guaraní have a legend that says that the Goddesses of the Moon and the Cloud came to the Earth one day to visit it but they instead found a Yaguareté (a jaguar) that was going to attack them. An old man saves them, and, in compensation, the Goddesses gave the old man a new kind of plant, from which he could prepare a "drink of friendship".

Sincerely,

Art Show:
This month we will be featuring some art work by Lori Hirsch. On December 14th she will be in the store from 12-2 PM. We will be providing tea and light refreshments during that time.

Tea Tip of the Month:
Many infusers let little bits of tea leaves through the screen. To avoid this, use the disposable fill-your-own tea bags. These are made from paper and so they don’t let anything through expect wonderful flavor.
