The website has been going through some design changes recently, and I wanted to point out a few areas that might be new. Read news articles in our Press section. We have tea information in the Tea Handbook. You will also find a gift registry, and wishlist on the site. The website can be a powerful tool in helping you to determine what kind of tea you want to try next. I'm always open to suggestions, and corrections, so let me know what you think!
Sleep. Some people have no trouble sleeping at all, and yet for others it is a constant struggle. In this expanded "tea tip" i wanted to share some ideas that we have tested that will help those of you with sleeping trouble.
1. Try eliminating caffeine altogether or reducing your consumption of
it as much as possible. If you think that having a few cups of coffee in the morning has no effect at night, think again. Caffeine's "half-life" in the body is between 3-12 hours. This means that after 12 hours your body could still have half the dose of caffeine you drank in the morning. If you have a few cups of coffee or tea throughout the day, it means you are ALWAYS caffeinated. You can easily
decaffeinate any tea by pouring off the first 30-second infusion and resteeping
as usual.
2. Drink a cup of "sleep tea" about an hour before bed, This could include anything with calming effects. Our Organic Sleep Tea has valerian, hops, and chamomile in it, and it works. Use this time of making and drinking tea as a way to wind down from your day. If you like to read at night, read in the living room with your cup of tea.
3. Having a tea foot soak in the evening is very, very
relaxing! In a small tub of hot water brew black tea
(try the Rosie Earl Grey). In our experience, no caffeine is
transmitted this way and your feet come out smooth and soft.
4. Move the computer and television out of the
bedroom. A dark, quiet, uncluttered room is a sure way to
restful sleep. Do not drink tea in bed, do not read in bed; train your body to do nothing but sleep in bed.

Tea History:
Passion Fruit does not get its name from its passion-inducing flavor.
The fruit was given its name by Jesuit priests in Brazil sometime in
the 1700’s. The Jesuits felt that the crown shaped flowers of the fruit
looked like the crown of thorns worn by Jesus before he was crucified,
an event known as the Passion of Christ.
During colonial times, as
Jesuits traveled throughout South and North America, they brought the
fruit with them and planted the seeds in the gardens of their missions.
In fact the Jesuits were probably the first people to cultivate them in
California where Passion Fruits are now widely grown commercially.

David Edwards

Tea Tip of the Month:
If you are going to drink tea for its health benefits
then it's a good idea to drink 5 to 6 cups a day. I recommend drinking
one cup of each type of tea. Start the morning with black, then move to
Oolong, have green tea with lunch, and white tea in the afternoon. Then
in the evening have a cup of Rooibos. While all tea is good for you,
the different types
address slightly different concerns. If you don't like a certain type
of tea, don't be discouraged, just drink more of the types you do like.
