Karen Peters' one of a kind teapots and ceramic sculpture have been shown in galleries and museums in the USA. They grace many collections. Her whimsical juxtaposition of unexpected icons and allegorical elements create unique relationships that challenge our minds eye and frees us from patent expectations. The teapot elevated to the role of sculpture.
Karen’s works combine both molded and hand built forms often taking as many as four separate kiln firings before they are completed. The teapots both functional and dysfunctional as pure art forms can be themed and or created as ‘usable forms including bowls, unique candle holders, lavabos, conventional teapots and tea sets complete with serving tea-trays, creamers and sugar containers and more… The working process stays essentially the same for her creations: inspirational ideas can become rough sketches or go directly from comprehension into three-dimensional form. When these objects of art have sufficiently air dried they are surface enhanced, painted and fired from ‘Green’- to Bisque. In turn these artworks can be glazed and fired multiple times depending on the final statement she wants to create. Everything is created in Karen’s New Mexico studio, she resides in Albuquerque.
