January 2008 Newsletter
 1/1/2008 by David

Welcome to 2008. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. Now that you have gotten gifts for everyone else, it's time to get something for yourself!

New Products:
Chocolate: Choose from 3 chocolate bars infused with tea. Pistachio Green tea white chocolate, Herbal Chai dark chocolate, and Ginger Tea milk chocolate. ($5)

Incense: Lama Chodpa Tibetan incense is handcrafted by monks at the Tashi Jong Tibetan Buddhist monastery in northern India. All the ingredients are blessed. However one is the object of a nine day blessing ceremony for 12 hours a day by 150 monks. After the 9 day blessing, it is placed in a room and blessed once a day for an entire year by a Togden (meditation master).

Tea: Along with your current favorites we have some new blends in. Strawberry Black tea (known as Lady Londonderry), Cranberry Black, and Peach Apricot.

Tea History:
Recently both Lapsang Souchong and Russian Caravan have been very popular. The legend behind this tea is an interesting one. During the Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1911) soldiers were traveling though the Fujian province of China and decided to set up camp in a tea factory. Their presence disrupted the scheduled drying of the tea. When the soldiers left the tea masters had to come up with a way to get back on schedule. They decided to dry the tea leaves over pine fires. What started out as a quick fix turned into a popular tea.

Tea Tastings:
We have teas to suit a wide variety of tastes. If you're not sure what you want to try next, come in on Friday evenings at 6:00 p.m. and David will offer samples of tea for you to taste. You might be surprised to learn that the tea you bought that turned out to be bitter was simply brewed too long. David gives tips on brewing, quantity of tea and water to use, and what kind of equipment works well—and with ease. There is no charge, but please call ahead as space is limited.
