October 2008
 10/1/2008 by David

a
Edition: October 2008

Did you know that October used to be the 8th month of the year? This was before January and February were added to the calendar. But for some reason October got to keep the first part of its name, “octo” meaning eight in Greek. I must admit I’m happy that January was added, since it’s my birth month!

For the past month or so I have been making videos about tea and posting them on the New Mexico Tea Company Blog. You can find them at blog.nmteaco.com. I will be continuing to add more video content. If you want something reviewed, or talked about, let me know.

The Old Windmill Dairy has started to add our tea to their grocery baskets which are delivered at your request to be picked up at local farmers markets and other venues (soon to be our store). The baskets include cheese, eggs, tea, coffee, vegetables and many other things. For more information give Michael or Edward a call at 505-384-0033.

Tea History

Tea has been consumed in India for a long time, and in fact some people will claim that the first tea plants were from Assam, a region in India. However tea did not play a large of a role in Indian society as it did in China. It was not till the British East India Company arrived that tea was produced commercially. Today, even though over 70% of the tea produced in India is consumed locally, it’s still one of the largest exporters of tea worldwide.

Sincerely,
David Edwards

Tea Tip of the Month:
There is such a thing as too many tea leaves in your cup. Often times when people switch too loose leaf tea they end up using to much tea. Start with 1 teaspoon of tea per 8 ounces of water, and then adjust from there according to taste.
