A member of the mint family and native to eastern North America, Native Americans traditionally used the leaves to brew as tea to promote menstruation, whilst the roots were used to remedy diarrhea, kidney problems and afterbirth expulsion. However European settlers took it as a sedative and nerve tonic. Today it has used to treat nervous tension, anxiety, insomnia and muscular tension.

Bring filtered or spring water to 212°F. Add 1.5 of tea leaves to an 8oz cup. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and let steep 5-7 minutes.
